First Job of 2009
On January 13, 2009 at approximately 11:15 hrs, District
4 Fire / Rescue was dispatched to a reported house fire at 26 School
Street. Chief McDermott in Car 628 responded along with Truck 627
with a crew of 4 under command of Lieut. Covino, Engine 622 with
a crew of 3 under command of Lieut. Thomas, Rescue 625 with a crew
of 2 under command of Asst. Chief Mateyka & BLS Unit 17 with
a crew of 2 including EMS Lt. Herczeg. On arrival, Chief Mcdermott
reported a 2 1/2 story wood frame and smoke pushing from the B/C
corner. Truck 627 was ordered to take up side A and stretch a line
to investigate. Engine 622 was ordered to do a reverse lay from
the Truck to the Hydrant about 150 feet away at the corner of Water
& School Streets. Initial crews reported small fire in bathroom
which was being knocked down by the domestic water in the structure.
The crews then used a water can and the domestic water to extinguish
any remaining fire and pull the ceiling to make sure no fire extensions
were evident. The attack line and supply lines were all left in
place as precaution, however, they never used. Due to the high smoke
condition, the structure was thoroughly ventilated and salvage of
the remaining property was performed. River Road Fire Company was
put on stand by in Station 620 for any other District 4 calls as
a precaution. All units were back in service by approximately 12:30
hrs.
