Engine 622 & BLS Unit 16 Responds to 2nd Alarm in District 1

On Friday April 18th at approximatley 15:00hrs, District 1 was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Kerwin Street. PD confirmed heavy smoke on arrival and Chief Lemiere confirmed the working fire. A request was made for one engine from South Plainfield to the scene. After interior crew made entry and confirmed fire had reached the attic, it was decided that it was going to take more resources to get into the attic and extinquish the fire. Chief Lemiere called for the 2nd alarm, which brought Engine 622 with Chief Nee in the officer seat and BLS 16 with Lt. Visoskas and crew as well as River Road Engine 651. Tones were also dropped for Arbor Hose to send an Engine Co. and Middlesex Fire Dept. to send a Ladder Co. to cover District 1. On arrival, Engine 622's crew was put in service as the FAST team and Capt. Mateyka relieved Chief Nee so he could respond to any District 1 calls.

While units were operating on the scene of the fire, District 1 received another call for an odor of something buring on Tabb Avenue. Chief Nee, Arbor Eng. 642 and Middlesex Truck 24 responded. It was determined that a homeowner on the block was burning household materials and was told to stop. While returning from the 2nd alarm assignment, Engine 622 took in a small mulch fire on Jessie Way. All companies were back in quarters and in service by 18:00hrs.
