Duty Crew Jumps Into Action
On Wednesday April 23, 2008 at approximatley 19:00hrs, a local resident
was playing basketball at the park down the street and while going
up for a basket was fouled and fell to the ground landing on his
head. He had some scrapes and bruises, but he also had a large laceration
from his hair line to his eye brow and it was bleeding excessively.
After one of his friends called 911, they thought it would be faster
to run to the firehouse since the duty crew was outside performing
the truck checks. Just as the injured party arrived at the firehouse,
the tones had dropped for the incident. The assigned BLS unit for
the evening was already at the Fire Training Grounds for a meeting
on the other side of town. The remainder of the fire duty crew was
still in quarters and quickly started first aid by controlling the
bleeding and packaging the patient. Once the patient was treated
and the incident was over the Engine Company responded to the park
to decon the basketball court of the excessive blood so the park
could still be used.
Duty crews were started by the fire company back in January of 2008
and have had some ups and downs so far. This is just one good example
as to why we should be staff the station when ever possible because
you never know when a walk up may occur. With the constant attendance
at the station, the public seems to be taking advantage of the services.
Good Job 'D Tour'!!!
