4 Keeps Busy
Things started off with a Brush Fire in the park down the street
from the firehouse. The fire consumed an area of about 100' by 100'.
Unfortunately due to a mechanical problem with the brush truck from
a call last week, Engine 621 & Engine 622 had to respond along
with Chief 628 to extinquish the fire. This call was at approximately
15:00 hrs and all units were back in quarters about 45 minutes later.
At approximately 17:00hrs, Piscataway Police were dispatched to
a reported motor vehicle crash with possible injuries at the intersection
of Stelton Road & Mindy Lane. On arrival, Car 20 determined
that there were injuries and the driver side door was pinned and
requested FD & EMS to the scene. North Stelton BLS 17 responded
along with Robert Wood BLS 783. Both units started to assess the
patient count on the job. On arrival of Rescue 625 with a crew of
4, Engine 621 with a crew of 6, and Chief 628, BLS 783 stated they
would take the patient through the passenger side door instead of
waiting for us to extricate the patient. The vehicle had over 18
inches of intrusion into the passenger side from the 'T' Bone collision
and the patient was not in a critical conditon. The need for rapid
take down was not needed in this situation. After some further discussion
with the Chief officers and the Robert Wood BLS unit, the desicion
was made to make the cut and then remove the passengers from the
driver side. All units were back in service by around 18:00 hrs
and BLS 17 transported the patient to Robert Wood Johnson Medical
Center.
