Ladder 627 Covers
Monroe Township Fire District 3
Due to the the death of Chief Bebe and the funeral arrangements
Fire District 3 went out of service during for the services. County
Office of Emergency Management reached out for coverage and a crew
was assembled. Captain Mateyka, & Firefighters, N. Higgins,
A. Ng & J. Rowe. The crew originally was to stand by from 19:00
hrs May 7th until 07:00 Hours May 8th but, due to a last minute
cancelation the crew all agreed to stay until 12:00 hrs when Monroe
Twp. District 1 & 2 could also return to service and cover the
town with a Ladder Company.
District 4 Handles 2nd Alarm on Brotherhood
Street at Approximately 03:30 hrs
District 4 was dispatched across the street from 57 Brotherhood
Avenue for the reported structure fire. PD arrived and confirmed
that we had a fully involved structure fire with exposures that
had steam and the siding melting off. Chief Nee arrived, confirmed
the working fire and requested a 1st alarm with a Ladder from New
Market to the scene since ours was in Monroe Twp. He then ordered
Engine 621 to take up side A, leaving room for the Ladder Company.
Engine 621 and crew (3) went in service with master streams, stretching
the 2 1/2 inch hand line and flowing the deck gun before the supply
line could be hooked up. A supply line was put into service using
a hydrant across from the fire, however, the hydrant was less than
adequate, with only 40 PSI of pressure. An attempt was made to use
the deck gun, but, with the low hydrant pressure, the engine nearly
went into vacuum. In an effort to protect the exposures, the 2 1/2
was put into service and the deck gun was discontinued until an
additional water source could be located. Engine 622 with a crew
of 4 was ordered to locate an additional plug and lay in, however,
the next closest hydrant was over 1500 ft and since the exposures
were adequately protected, the decision was made to continue the
fire fight with the water supply we had and shuttle any needed water
from 622 to any other locations. Brush Truck 624 with a crew of
2 arrived and handled the brush fire and playground fire in the
exposure yards while Engine 622 shuttled them extra water. New Market
Truck One arrived and the crew was put to work by checking the exposure
buildings for extensions. River Road Engine 651 and Rescue 625's
Crews were brought in to assist in the fire fight. Within 10 minutes
of the first arriving units, the entire structure collapsed. Once
the main body of fire was knocked down, a gated Y was put on the
2 1/2 to allow for flowing of (2) 1 3/4 hand lines. BLS unit 16
set up rehab in front of Engine 621 with a crew of 2 while Arbor
BLS Unit 11 assisted with any treatment and transports if needed.
Additional units on the scene were Piscataway Township OEM, Piscataway
Police and Piscataway Fire Prevention. Once again we would all like
to extend a big thank you to all our mutual aid for thier quick
response and assistance.
