Engine 621 Responds into
District 1
On Tuesday June 24, 2008 at approximatley 12:00 hrs, District 4
was requested with one engine to assist District 1 at 399 Hoes Lane
for a Garbage Truck Fire. On arrival, Piscataway PD confirmed the
fire and that the truck had dumped it's load, which was on fire,
along with the truck. PD and the driver did what they could to extinquish
the truck but the load of garbage containing propane tanks and other
hazardous material was heavily invovled in fire on the arrival of
District 1 Engine 661 & 662. Chief Rena requested 1 Engine from
District 4, an Engine to cover up from District 3 and a Truck Company
to cover the District from South Plainfield. Engine 621 responded
under the command of Captain Mateyka with a crew of 4 while Station
620 stood by with 6 under command of Lt Scarpa. On arrival of Engine
621, the crew was directed to assist with hooks and overhaul until
a loader from Public Works could arrive and break it up for easier
extinguishment. All companies were back in service by approximately
14:00hrs. In all District 1 Engines 661, 662, 663, District 4 Engine
621, Piscataway Fire Prevention Car 19, Piscataway Police and Piscataway
Public Works were all on the scene.
